“[The ADC was] very happy with this way of validation instead of the old fashion way with a lot of administrative paperwork”

Challenge

Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) validation and monitoring for new installations is an uncertain, expensive, and burdensome process. With a lab audit approaching, Curaçao’s Analytisch Diagnostic Centrum (ADC) sought an affordable, faster, and more accurate solution for ensuring its PTS was safe to transport blood samples and to satisfy annual accreditation requirements.

Solution

The ADC purchased a two-year service agreement with Telecom – Motryx’s channel partner, to conduct periodic validations of its new PTS. Telecom technicians completed the first validation in less than four hours and the validation report was presented to the auditor for approval within one week. With VitalQC, the ADC was able to meet its ISO accreditation requirements nearly eight times faster at half the cost of traditional validation without the need for blood donors.

Benefits

  • VitalQC eliminated the need for donor blood samples and specimen analysis

  • The ISO15189 required PTS validation was completed in less than four hours, with little planning required, avoiding PTS downtime, and streamlining the accreditation process

  • The ADC saved nearly 50% of the costs associated with traditional, blood-based validation

  • The validation confirmed that the Telecom PTS did not have a significant influence on blood sample integrity, with rejection probabilities for most analytes as low as 1%

  • VitalQC’s clinical impact prediction model gave the laboratory and accreditor confidence that the PTS was safe to transport blood specimens
